Munger Graduate Residence

Adjacent to the Stanford Law School, in the southeast part of the campus, a new community is springing up as the construction of the Munger Graduate Residence continues. To date, two of the five-building residence have been completed and were occupied by students in December 2008. Construction of these two buildings was expedited to enable students to begin living in the apartments at the start of the winter quarter. Early completion of these buildings adds 163 beds for graduate students. Construction of the remaining buildings, Buildings 1, 4 and 5, will continue through summer 2009.

The Wilbur Underground Parking Structure (Parking Structure 6), a new 4-level, 1,187-stall parking structure, was also completed in summer 2008.

The Munger Graduate Residence will redefine graduate education at Stanford by creating premium housing for 600 graduate students. The Residence will be a model of interdisciplinary living and learning and will offer an array of modern apartments and communal spaces fostering cross-disciplinary thought, debate and collaboration.

Benefactors

This project is possible thanks to the largest gift ever earmarked for univeristy housing at Stanford. Stanford will use a $43.5 million gift from Charles T. Munger and his wife and alumna, Nancy, as the foundation for a one-of-a-kind mixed graduate student community on more than six acres of university land that links the main campus to the various Lower Row residences.
